The Turkish Halfeti Rose only grows in exceptionally small numbers in the village of Halfeti, Turkey.

Red roses are probably the most cliched romantic gift ever. Have you ever considered a black rose?

There aren’t too many females who will deny the extremely rare Turkish rose makes an exotic gift, even if it will die after a week or so. The roses appear to be completely black, with the signature green stem.

Called the Turkish Halfeti Rose, they only grow in exceptionally small numbers in the village of Halfeti, Turkey. They won’t flourish anywhere else in the entire world because it’s the river Euphrates that provides the ideal soil and growing conditions for the rose.

Those perfect natural circumstances are due to the pH levels of groundwater in the local area. Adding to the undeniably cool effect of the rose, the black color is only visible during the summer months. In every other season the roses are an exceptionally deep crimson red tint.

Although the rose is unique, the Turks associate it both with passion as well as death and foreboding, perhaps due to the insanely dark color.

  1. This is fake. No such thing as the Halfeti black rose; it's an old hoax. There are a few varieties of roses that have a particularly dark red color that are referred to as "black roses", such as Black Pearl, or Black Magic, but they have nothing to do with Turkey. There is no actually black colored rose that grows that way i'm afraid. Truly black roses are prepared with inks and dyes.

  2. Death! This flower symbolises death. There are 4 fallen angels under the river Euphrates.Chained in darkness, the prisoners that were locked in a cell at the bottom of the dam went crazy with fear!

  3. I don't think the Rose's are a True black , at least from its base color . I believe that it's due to a Very large saturation of color like purple or red along with the Ph level of the water & the soil that allow the Roses to gain so much color that it turns Black either way it's still a black rose . It's really interesting that it supposedly will only thrive in Turkey . Possibly if simulator water & soil conditions could be scientifically recreated with particular Chemicals that it could potentially be grown Else where .
